YWCA History

Founded in 1915 by a group of women who met as a Bible study group, the YWCA has evolved as programs and services have changed to meet the needs of women and families in our community. However, in looking back we find common ground with our foremothers and the theme chosen for the dedication of our building in 1921 still rings true. It was:
“By the work you do, by the dreams you dream, by the visions you see shall you know one another.”
YWCA Clinton is a not-for-profit service organization which, regardless of race or economic status, gives women and their families opportunities for growth and wellness. Our mission, the elimination of racism and the empowerment of women, is the cornerstone on which programs are planned and that vision drives the YWCA to create opportunities for growth, leadership and power for women, girls, and their families. We hope that as you browse our site you will find a class, program, special event, or activity that especially interests you and that you will join us!
We hope you are pleased with the progress we have made and the impact your support has had on families in our community throughout the past year. As we look to the future, we will continue to meet the needs of area families through our programming and services.
We appreciate your partnering with the YWCA to continue the mission programming, you obviously feel this mission is important either because of your membership purchase or your monetary and material donations. It is our hope that you will always see the YWCA as an organization whose mission is aligned with your own, promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.
